Engaging Consumers Through Network Accessibility and Performance, NY State Health Foundation
Cynosure Health was one of five awardees funded as part of the New York State Health Foundation’s Empowering Health Care Consumer Grants. Click here for a full list of selected recipients.
As part of this twenty-month project, Cynosure Health is conducting a comprehensive analysis of New York provider network composition, performance, and accessibility. The goal of the project is to provide consumers with the information they need to understand the trade-offs between network size, performance, accessibility, and cost, so that consumers can make informed health care decisions. It will consist of an analysis of plan-product networks using physician group and hospital accessibility and performance data to understand what variation in networks may exist.
Cynosure Health will produce issue briefs outlining specific recommendations for policymakers, health plans, and other relevant stakeholders on how to improve New Yorkers’ provider networks. We are pleased to partner with Truven Health Analytics, as well as consumer health advocacy groups led by Center for Independence of the Disabled New York (CIDNY) to ensure that the project and its recommendations are informed by consumers. The expertise the Cynosure team brought to our hospitals is invaluable and greatly appreciated. From my personal standpoint, the skills I personally obtained from the team are enormous and will benefit me for the rest of my career. Because of my exposure to the Cynosure team, I am a better listener, observer and facilitator from watching the team in action. I have learned to listen and observe the audience and, because of the improved facilitating skills, I have the confidence to interject and I did not possess this before.Michelle D. Smith, Project Manager, Louisiana Hospital Association Research and Education Foundation
Barbara DeBaun was a tremendous asset to planning our event, providing concrete, experience-based ideas to meet our objectives. Her enthusiasm and commitment combined with expert knowledge made her presentations highly effective….and great fun!Karol G. Wicker, MHS, Maryland Hospital Association

Dr. Tremain has a way of taking something very complicated and reminds us to “keep it simple”. Somehow when you are done listening to the way he has it structured with the facility stories and his practical presentations you feel like you CAN take down a mountain with a spoon…" Kristine Brockman BS, ATC, CPHQ Fairbanks Memorial Hospital
